For the first time in the history of Rio de Janeiro´s Carnival, a cryptocurrency pays the bills
For the first time in the history of Rio de Janeiro´s Carnival, one of the largest and most popular events in the world, a cryptocurrency was used as an official means of payment at Incentivo Brazil premium deck, where every year dozens of businessmen from different sectors watch the samba’s schools parades.
According to previous estimates of the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), Rio’s carnival would generate about US$ 2 billions.
“I was impressed how quickly I got the ticket through cryptocurrency. I entered Bestkoin‘s website, filled my personal information up and in a few minutes I had my access guaranteed to Incentivo Brazil . Next year, I’ll do the same and with friends and relatives, ” says Brazilian businessman Lucas Fortuna.
Bestkoin focus on the tourism market and had it was launched in Brazil last November, as part of a project of to deliver a faster and affordable mean of payment than the traditional ones.
“Bestkoin had to be present at this event that attracts thousands of international and Brazilian tourists every year to Rio de Janeiro. The samba schools’ parades are unforgettable. The response was above our expectations, we established the partnership with Incentivo Brasil a few weeks before carnival. We did quite well: we 60 tourists used our cryptocurrency to be at Incentivo Brasil premium deck”, highlights Pedro Ribeiro, co-founder of Bestkoin.
The virtual money was developed by a group of international entrepreneurs. Dubai based, Bestkoin aims to become a cheaper and easier alternative for tourists to make transactions electronically, avoiding national and international fees and taxes.
“As a mean of payment, Bestkoin is fantastic because the tourism sector is quite expressive. It is an outstanding initiative as It is not complicated, as people might think . It is already in our daily routine. It is as simple as purchasing something on line, ” says Brazilian businessman Henrique Barack Obama.
